I dislike a lot of the fluff, and find myself only interested in series that are... less marketed towards young teens, I think is the best way to put it.

Eden is the best manga I ever read. Monster and Oldboy respectively hold second and third. My god, I never knew this medium could have such intellectual quest. Endo Hiroki proves himself chillingly-effective at communicating a profound observation of human emotion. It is a thoughtful, yet unpretentious, amalgamation of Shirou Masamune’s Ghost in the Shell and Mary Shelley’s The Last Man. If someone were to buy only one manga series, I would highly-recommend Eden, if they can find it.

I like Skull Man, the prototype for Kamen Rider. I'm also for some good vampire ones, like Hellsing, Dance in the Vampire Bund and Rosario + Vampire (as well as the choice stated above). And if only there was a licensed English version... the Korean manga Witch Hunter. Look it up.
