  • Spoiler Forum Rules - UPDATED

Please note that we've made some MAJOR changes around here as to how the spoilers and speculations get discussed. Our aim is to foster the highest quality discussion forum for Smallville spoilers on the net and we need ALL of you to help us with that. =) Please take the time to read through this post before posting in the spoiler forum!

    What's a spoiler?
A spoiler is information that spoils the ending to a film, television episode, book, or comics for people. In fandom, most people consider a "spoiler" to be any revelation of a fact about something they haven't seen or read yet.

So what, exactly, counts as a spoiler?

    A SPOILER IS...

    - A confirmed detail about an upcoming episode, plain and simple. This is why it's called a "spoiler"-- knowing this information will spoil the viewing experience for people.

    - ANY information about an episode that has not yet aired in the US.

    - ANY information about an episode that has aired within a week of its original airdate. For example, if the episode airs on a Wednesday, you cannot post about it in anything but the Episode Forum dedicated to that episode until the following Wednesday. These discussions belong in the Episode Forums ONLY, to keep Canadian viewers or folks who are catching it on EasyView or taped it or whatever. No exceptions.

    - Spoilers for unaired episodes belong in "Spoiler Discussion" forum ONLY. Spoilers are not allowed outside of the spoiler forum in any way, shape or form -- this includes spoilers marked by spoiler space.

    - NO EXCEPTION: If you have actual news about upcoming events for (for example) Clark and Lana in any episode -- it goes in the Spoiler forum. You do not post about it in the Clark or Lana threads.

    - TV Guide-style episode summaries are considered spoilers, no matter what the source. Do not post them at any time until the episode airs in any thread outside the spoiler forum.

    - Casting information is a spoiler, so please don't announce how many episodes a certain character is signed for, or who will be playing what part, anywhere but in the Spoiler threads.

    - Episode titles are ALWAYS spoilers.

    - Media rumors count as spoilers. This includes rumors you may have read on various web sites or message boards. You should say WHERE you heard this rumor so that people don't think you're totally making things up. Made up rumors will count as trolling.

-- Also, just because you think the spoiler you just posted is "common knowledge" does not mean it's not a spoiler. It is!

    - Speculation based on spoilers, I.e., "Based on the covenant spoilers, I think _________ will happen" are allowed only if they occur in a thread about a spoiler. For example, in a thread called "Pariah spoilers" in which the first post is, say, the episode description from TVGuide, you're allowed to speculate on that spoiler and incorporate other spoilers into the discussion.

PLEASE DO NOT OPEN A THREAD JUST FOR YOUR SPECULATION. That is what the Smallville Theories forum is for!

As always if you're unsure about something being a spoiler, private message your friendly neighborhood forum moderator.

What DOESN'T count as a spoiler?

    A SPOILER IS *NOT*:

-- Information about past or present storylines.

-- Your personal fantasies about the show that are not in any way based on any current spoilers. This includes a list of what superpowers you'd like to see Clark get, which characters you'd like to see kill Lionel Luthor off, what villains you'd like to see return, who you'd like to see cast as a love interest for Lana, what actress you think should play Lex's mom, ad nauseum. You get the idea here. We cannot say it enough: WISHFUL THINKING IS NOT A SPOILER. These types of threads that are not based on spoilers in any way, shape or form belong in the Smallville Theories forum.

-- Blind analysis is not a spoiler, meaning that your extremely meaningful and concise analysis on the nature of evil in the Smallville Universe or why, precisely, Clark and Lana are meant 2 be 4 evah or why Chloe rules and Lana drools are NOT appropriate for this forum unless they're directly based on spoilers. Spoilers are about what WILL happen as per a reliable source in the media, whether it be a web site, an actor or producer interview, a statement at a convention by a writer, and so forth. These, too, can go in the Smallville Theories forum.

-- Information about episodes that aired in the US/Canada more than one week earlier do not count as spoilers.

-- Funny rumors, or rather, fake rumors that you find humorous, are most definitely NOT spoilers. I.e., "Bill Cosby is going to play Pete Ross's mom in drag on Smallville!" don't belong in the Spoiler forum. (They actually don't belong anywhere, but ESPECIALLY not in the Spoiler forum.)

    A FEW FINAL GUIDELINES:

    - Please SEARCH FOR EXISTING THREADS before posting new ones. We've seen so many people create unnecessary new threads. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the more significant / popular threads weren't pushed back the second page; if they weren't pushed out of sight.

    - Try to find other threads to post in before making new ones. If a spoiler's been out for a while, and it's huge, I GUARANTEE that there's a thread on it somewhere.

    - Give your thread a good, descriptive subject. People shouldn't have to guess what it's about.

    - Please read the other specific rules of the Spoilers forum which are laid out at the top of this thread.

    - Do not under any circumstance post spoilers that are from other Smallville fan sites and spoiler sites. This can and will lead to termination of your KryptonSite account.
