A Decade Under the Influence (2003). It's better than Easy Riders, Raging Bulls (released the same year). While Easy Riders, Raging Bulls spend more time touching on the 1960s, and the changes in the studio system during that time, it also devotes a lot of time towards the Hollywood crowds sexual exploits and drug habits, to the point that it hijacks the story. A Decade Under the Influence focuses more on the movies, and the interconnectiveness between politics, society, and the movies. It ackowledges not just the civil rights movement, but gay liberation and the women's rights movement, too. All of these things that were going on in society. There's a segment where they ackowledge both European and Asian (Kurosawa) filmmakers, who inspired the New Hollywood filmmakers. There's a proper segment where the film roles available to women in those days are explored (summed up by Ellen Burstyn as something like: "the wife, the mother, and the prostitute"). It's a very eye opening bit.Last edited by jon-el87; 05-15-2022, 06:07 AM.Comment
