A lot of my reading this year has been spent on the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep. Anyone who prefers their heroines to be butt-kicking fighters will probably really love this series.

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. Pure fantasy full of magic animals, polar bears and witches. My kids love it, but so do I.
