Everyone is interested in making music video's these days so it would be logic to open a thread where questions can be asked and hopefully answered

that's a really great idea matt . it will really help all of us wannabe vid makers, they number of times people have asked for help in these threads is uncountable (if that's even a word ). Finally someone has made a whole help thread. awesome .

Holly - i was thinking EXACTLY the same so many people opening up new threads to ask questions over again.

Dr.cool - i would have to go with Vegas. WMM is for the basic editing and many excellent mv's have been produced with WMM.but vegas can do the basics +++ so much more.

OKay, i have the full version of sony vegas 6, except, like i bought it n i dont even use it because i dont know how to lol..help?

Sony Vegas seems to BITE every1 the first time they use it.lol.
I actually loved its interface and it was easier than WMM IMO.
BearCat will help you out im sure Ive used Vegas 6 and i notice no huge differences with 6 & 5. If you still not answered by tomorrow il be back to 'try' and explain.Im really tired and i need sleep.Nite

Sure I'll help out if I can.

Basically vegas 6 (or 5) is just like WMM only its horizontal instead of vertical.

Unlike WMM you have to split the clips yourself. 1) import a movie file 2) drag it up to the timeline 3) then use the mouse and/or the arrow keys to get to the scene you want. 4) Click on the section and then hit S to split the clip. 5) Go to where you want the scene to end and click on the clip again, then hit S to split the clip. This should give you a scene that is separate from the rest of the movie. 6) Do the same to create the rest of your clips. 7) delete the sections you don't need. 8) then just place the clips edge to edge without overlapping them. 9) If you overlap the clips it creates a fade through effect, which is fine just don't overuse it.

That's the basic way you use to edit in vegas 6. It takes awhile to get used to, but eventually it'll become second nature. And once you're used to it, its way easier to edit vids than it is with WMM.

People do some amazing things with Premeire and people do some amazing things with Vegas.In my opinion Vegas has an easier user interface.

Vegas 6 baby!!
Love it,dont want to use anything else allthough someday Ill have to.
I'd love to use Premeire also but i jsut dont know how to use it and its not as easy to pick up as Vegas...But Vegas has some capabilities that Premeire cant match and vice versa....
I like the interface of Vegas way more than premeire..But thats just my opinion cause alot of people swear by Premeire.

my dad and brother used premeire for a graduation video and it came out horrible (it was my graduation too ) but that might be because it was over 2 hours...
