British writer and former intelligence officer David Cornwell, better known as John le Carré, has passed away aged 89.
He wrote many books including The Spy Who Came In from the Cold and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His spy character George Smiley has been portrayed by Alec Guinness (who I'd argue is the definitive George Smiley) and Gary Oldman, among others.
