THE ACOLYTE ORIGINAL SERIES CAST REVEALED

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

The High Republic saw the Jedi Order at its prime, centuries prior to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Manny Jacinto praises co-star Lee Jung-Jae as the first Asian Jedi in Star Wars: The Acolyte, inspiring a new generation of fans.

According to EW, Manny Jacinto, reflecting on the series' inclusive casting, shared, "If I'm being candid, this is the first time you're getting to see an Asian Jedi," further highlighting Jung-Jae's significant role in inspiring "a new generation of Asian kids to like take up the lightsaber — it's pretty incredible."
Um, how about Bultar Swan in Attack of the Clones? If you use "Asian" as an umbrella term, you also had an Indian actress play Jedi Master (and Jedi High Council member) Depa Billaba in Phantom Menace. A character who has grown in significance (and appearances), due to her being the master of Kanan Jarrus. Not to mention, George Lucas originally wanted Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune for the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi back in the 1970s, but Mifune apparently turned him down.

This inclusive casting approach in The Acolyte signifies a notable shift from Star Wars' inception in 1977 when the franchise had limited representation. However, the recent streaming shows have seen more diversity, with Chilean actor Pedro Pascal leading The Mandalorian and Rosario Dawson featuring in the upcoming title, Ahsoka.
For the record, outside of the Tattooine exteriors, A New Hope was shot in England in 1976. At that time, the black population and Asian population of England was tiny. In 1981 (five years later), the total black population of England is estimated to have been 1,5% and 2,65% total Asian (Including India and Pakistan). And then you have the follow up questions: how many of them were age-appropriate and professional actors?

I disagree that this franchise has had limited representation. Empire Strikes Back introduced Lando. Return of the Jedi featured black and Asian fighter pilots, along with female X-wing and A-wing pilots. The first season of Star Wars: Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO was divided into three arcs, following different characters in each (not counting the two titular droids). The female lead for the second arc was a black woman (and starship pilot) named Jessica Meade, while the female lead for the third was Auren Yomm (visibly designed to look Indian).

The prequel trilogy featured a multiethnic cast (too many to count). Among them a black dude (Samuel L. Jackson) and an Indian woman on the Jedi High Council. There were also two black actresses playing Jedi High Council members, but they apparently played aliens (though, I thought that they were just a couple of ladies wearing hats). There was also Warwick Davis playing a normal human (a character he'd reprise in Solo), so we also have body diversity. Attack of the Clones had Jango and Boba Fett played by two Mâori actors (who also played all of the millions of Jango Fett clones, meaning that all the Clone Troopers are non-white). The same film also had an Indian actress play the new Queen of Naboo, while Revenge of the Sith had a Mâori actress playing her replacement. Then you have characters introduced or fleshed out on The Clone Wars. Rebels featured Ezra Bridger (whose design is based on Aladdin, and thus Arab) and Sabine Wren (Asian), along with many other multiethnic characters.

The sequel trilogy had a multiethnic cast... though, I feel that it might've been a step back, given the depiction of Finn (in George's day, you could expect a black character to be a high-ranking officer or a member of the Jedi High Council, someone of high profile). Rogue One also featured a multiethnic cast, as did Solo (especially if you apply the one drop-rule, because then the film's female lead is played by an actress of Indian heritage). Then you have all of the Disney+ shows up to this point.

Haven't you heard? This franchise was sexist, racist and every other -ist in the book until its savior, Kathleen Kennedy came along.

The Acolyte...Isn't this the show helmed by Harvey Weinstein's former assistant?
