  • Untitled Alien series (FX)

Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley is working alongside Ridley Scott to bring the first-ever Alien series to the Disney-owned cabler. Landgraf revealed that the series is set on Earth and described it as a "scary thrill ride." Additional details were not immediately available.
Not sure about this. Guess it all comes down to execution. I do think that there are a lot of untapped potential in the Alien franchise.

Noah Hawley's Alien series for FX has found its lead in Sydney Chandler.

According to Deadline, Chandler's starring role was officially confirmed by the network, with pre-production on the series set to begin sometime in 2023. Alien is reportedly set decades before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 film of the same name, which starred Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley and is the first franchise entry to take place on Earth. Chandler's exact role in the series has not been disclosed.

An Alien television series was first announced in December 2020 with Hawley attached as the head writer, showrunner and executive producer. Hawley is best known for his work on Fargo and the X-Men spinoff Legion. In 2021, he divulged further details about his Alien story, confirming that the series would be set on Earth. "The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship," he said. "I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of 'What happens if you can’t contain it?' are more immediate."

Landgraf also confirmed in February 2022 that Ripley will not be involved in FX's Alien. "It's the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth," he said. "So, it takes place on our planet. Right near the end of this century we're in -- so 70-odd years from now. Ripley won't be a part of it or any of the other characters of Alien other than the alien itself."

FX's Alien does not yet have a release date. Additionally, a new Alien movie directed by Fede Álvarez is in development as well starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.
