  • Ah, Warner Brothers. Never a dull moment with this horrible mess of a studio. And people thought the problem was Zack Snyder...

I think we will know more about this fiasco after The Flash movie comes out. Keep in mind, there were a lot of rumors that The Flash movie would basically wipe out the DCEU versions of Superman and Batman, with Supergirl and Batgirl becoming the new focal points. Once that became public knowledge, there was a lot of (justified) outrage from fans. A little while after that, the movie's release date was pushed back. And just last week, we found out Affleck shot a scene for Aquaman 2 (a scene that supposedly Michael Keaton already shot in the past).

Maybe the studio finally decided that they can't carry on the DCEU in a watered down version and they are just slowly letting it rest in peace. After this movie all that will be left will be Aquaman 2 and WW3. Ezra won't return. The guy is a nutcase.

And then hopefully they will properly reboot everything.

Well, there's also the Black Adam movie, the Shazam sequel, and a Blue Beetle movie coming up. Of course, I only remembered the middle one being a thing. The first, when I thought a little harder. As for the last one, I basically discovered while looking up the DCEU on Wikipedia (to see if they had any other future projects), right before writing this. Those three are probably not the creme de la creme of movie projects (the first Shazam! movie didn't exactly set the box office on fire, by the standards of the superhero genre in the past decade).

Ezra won't return. The guy is a nutcase.
"Nutcase" doesn't really cover it. We're talking about someone, who has physically assaulted several women, and is now facing multiple allegations of grooming minors (and, last time I checked, has gone on the run).

Warner Bros.' Supergirl movie starring Sasha Calle may not have a bright future ahead of it.

On the heel of Batgirl's abrupt cancellation, insiders believe that other movies planned to exist within the DC Extended Universe, including Supergirl, will likely not move forward into full production, as reported by Rolling Stone. The film, which is, at the time of writing, still planned as a spinoff of The Flash, doesn't have any solid details beyond the fact that Calle was set to play the caped superhero. It's currently unknown whether her version is Kara Zor-El or a new interpretation of the character.

The Flash's teaser trailer confirmed that Supergirl was planned to appear but in what capacity is still unknown. Due to the film's emphasis on the multiverse, many fans suspected that she would take the place of Henry Cavill's Man of Steel after Barry Allen alters the timeline of DCEU. Neither Warner Bros. nor DC has addressed these rumors.

Batgirl's abrupt termination has sent ripples across the DC fandom with many enthusiasts beginning to question which productions are still "safe." Warner Bros. stated that it's in the process of restructuring its approach to both the DCEU and its general output on HBO Max, a process that required certain projects to be canceled despite their seemingly near-complete production. While the fate of films such as Black Canary and Blue Beetle remains unknown at the time of writing, James Gunn reassured fans that Peacemaker Season 2 is "safe."
Didn't even know about the Black Canary one. Probably following up on the Birds of prey movie... that no one watched.

        • Yet, no peep on The Flash getting canceled too since these movies would be follow ups to the events of that movie.

          • Right now Zaslav is looking to trim the fat. And just like he did with the Arrowverse, his first step is to drop everything that won't make much of a profit. The Flash movie will probably go ahead because it may recoup some of its (big) budget. Just like The Flash series was given one more season, whereas Batwoman and LoT were laid to rest straight away.

Don't think the Ezra Miller situation will change that unless it becomes even worse from a PR standpoint. They will make some money out of him and then he's toast as well.

Obviously it's safe to say that Hamada's lame plan to replace Batfleck and Cavill's Superman with Batgirl and Supergirl is dead in the water. And just as well, IMO. Say what you will about Zaslav, but at least he's ruthless enough to cut out anything mediocre that only exists for virtue signaling purposes. If this studio finally decides that quality and profit are all that matters, then it might start producing good superhero movies and shows again.

            • I keep hearing that Henry Cavill will have a cameo in the end credits of Black Adam.

              • Arrowverse Boss Greg Berlanti Is Possible Candidate for DC Films' "Kevin Feige"

                https://comicbook.com/dc/news/arrowv...s-kevin-feige/

I just wanted to gage the reactions on everyone’s feelings about this possibility. Obviously, he shepherded the Arrowverse to what it was, so there was no way his name wouldn’t be thrown out there. Like him or not, he knows these characters inside and out, but what is the likelihood it’s him? And what could he do without the constraints of a TV budget. 🤔

                • Because I don't want to get banned from this place after 14 years, I'll keep it short and PG:

Keep Berlanti the hell away from any more DC properties.

I wouldn't say that. Just look at the Supergirl series. They changed the traditionally teenage girl into an adult woman, and made her into more of a copy of Clark Kent/Superman (rather than her own person). When it comes to her supporting cast, he gave her Cat Grant, son of the Toyman, and a race swapped Jimmy Olsen, and invented an adoptive sister for her.

Where are traditional Supergirl love interests like Dick Malverne and Phil Decker? Okay, they used the former in a minor capacity, but not as a love interest for Kara.

Where are all of the Supergirl supporting characters from her various comic book series, that have been published over the decades? Andrea Martinez (the superhero Comet), Cheryl Delarye, Daryll Simmons, Ida Berkowitz, Joan Raymond, Johnny Ostrander, Mattie Harcourt, Terri Blake, Cutter Sharpe? If we're talking diversity. Ida and Cutter are Jewish. Andrea is Latina and a lesbian (not to mention, shifts between female and male form). Cheryl, Daryll, Mattie and Terri are all black. (Mattie is also a doctor. So you'd have a black female doctor). Actually, when you compare the Berlanti show to the three Supergirl comics published in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s/early 2000s... the show might actually have ended up giving Supergirl a far less diverse supporting cast, than even the older comics.
