  • What actually happened at the end of last night's episode

Hi, everybody. I'm starting this thread to clear up a misunderstanding I've been noticing with regards to the ending of last night's episode.

The crux of this misunderstanding has to do with what Regina actually did and why Emma and Henry have false memories.

First of all, PAN'S CURSE NEVER HIT. By destroying the scroll used to cast It, Regina stopped said Curse in its tracks.

Secondly, the 'price' extracted for Regina stopping Pan's Curse was this: Emma and Henry would lose their Storybrooke experience memories, which would've made them virtual strangers to each other, and everyone else would be sent back to the place(s) where they came from (Black-and-White Land for Whale and the Enchanted Forest for everyone else).

Third: Regina used the same spell she used on Belle in "Lacey" on Emma and Henry in order to prevent their Storybrooke experience memories from being erased.

Fourth: The above things did nothing whatsoever to affect the timeline of the show; everything we've seen - including flashbacks - still happened.

Fifth: The false memories that Regina gave Emma and Henry have simply made them believe that they've been a family for all of Henry's life.

Sixth: That flashback at the end with Emma and baby Henry in the hospital in Phoenix was her changing her mind about giving him up for adoption without holding him in her arms.

This is the only thing I disagree with you. Regina was very clear. Emma and Henry's memories of Storybroke would be erased. What she did was give them *new memories*, so that Henry would have memories of a loving mother, and Emma would still love him. She did not prevented their memories from Storybroke from being erased. She knew it would only give Henry pain to remember the ones he loved, and he would never be able to see them again, and she didn't want him to be unhappy. Not to mention if he did remember, she would not be "paying the price", because both him and Emma would try to find a way to go to the Enchanted Forest.

As a real mother would, Regina put her child's happiness first, letting him truly go by putting Emma in her place, so that instead of just being Henry's biological mother, she would become also the one who raised him. By doing this, she lost her place in Henry's heart, effectively giving it to Emma.

This was confirmed by Emma not remembering Hook, because she lost all memories of knowing him in the first place. Apart from this, everything else you said is exact.

Emma and Henry's Storybrooke memories would've been erased if Regina hadn't offered to give them false memories; by doing so, she circumvented their Storybrooke experience memories being erased and gave them a somewhat happy ending.

Regina did FOR Emma and Henry exactly what she did TO everyone else including Belle. She made them forget their experiences of the last 11 years in order to prevent their memories of their Storybrooke experiences from being erased. She makes that pretty clear when she's talking to Emma.

What I don't understand is: If Regina stopped the curse, why did they all have to go back to the Enchanted Forest?

If she stopped the curse, wouldn't that stop the results of the curse from happening?

^ That was the price for her stopping Pan's Curse; it basically erased Storybrooke from existence, but less violently than her failsafe device would have.
