As always, Supernatural starts out with a bang(except for "Exile on Main Street"), and this episode was no different. I definitely enjoyed the bit of continuity with Castiel still hearing angels, like Anna in season four and Jared played a much different kind of angel while playing as Zeke!Sam. Much different than how he played as Lucifer. Man, for a TV series...SPN has some of the BEST actors on TV, it's insane.

Well look at Hael whose vessel she was possessing was indeed breaking down. It'll be interesting if certain vessels aren't ready for angels and they're just picking "regular Joes" to be their vessel. Also would be interesting if Sam starts to break down in that way as well.

I loved it. A 10/10. Just so good. A great season opener indeed. I loved that Dean didn't tell the angels where Castiel was

I LOVED that bit of Continuity Porn. They said only certain people could act as a vessel. Seems like Hale just recruited someone who was "close but no cigar". She also mentioned that many of the Angels were still circling looking for hosts. So... throwing in some speculation here: it would kind of make sense that SOME Angels would get a good host right off but many who were perhaps more ruthless, would settle for less than perfect. So... perhaps the % of dicks/decent is a higher % of dicks right now because they grabbed bodies pretty quickly.

And you have to wonder how Ezekiel was damaged on the way down. I don't think it was the host body because there was no deterioration. It seems like the Angel himself is damaged.

Finally, I think getting Sam as his host is like winning the vessel lottery. Sam is like a kobe beef. He was hand raised to host an Angel (Lucifer) and carefully groomed over the years. I really doubt Sam's body will deteriorate -- even with the damage done by the Demon trials. I imagine Dean's body is also pretty close to winning the vessel lottery as Micheal was keen to get in it (and there is NO WAY to say that without it sounding dirty... sorry).

I think the bloodline thing is more for a vessel not imploding, like Nick's was when Lucifer was inside him, and why Hale was starting to deteriorate. That's why she wanted to use Cas as a vessel. This is why Ezekiel will not want to give up Sam without a fight. Angels are just hopping into any human they can find in a bit of a panic.

Why isn't there a loved/hated thread? Always missing that with SPN forum nowadays

This episode definitely had a lot of little references to past continuity that I really enjoyed. My biggest problem from season five to six was that Dean's handprint of Castiel was gone and so was the Enochian sigils on their ribs, but THIS is what a season premiere should have, those references and nods like the wrong angel vessels, about an angel with no grace still hearing angel radio.

And you also make a good point about Sam. Him being Lucifer, an archangel's, vessel, could be really special and won't be destroyed if any other angel takes over the body.

Very strange with how one premiere gets more viewers than another since "Meet the New Boss" and "We Need to Talk About Kevin" were so much better than "Exile on Main St.", lol. But good news for Supernatural nonetheless!

Best ratings since 2010 right? It also helped cw to get best tuesday night ratings for a fall season in past 4 yrs I hear. So happy and ty to every fan who helped the show get such a cool accomplishment. I loved last night and feel this is gonna be an amazing season.

Great start to S9. I'm looking forward to seeing how
Ezekiel-in-Sam goes. I presume Sam will be shocked to discover, eventually, that he has angel powers
It's weird!

                      Now back to you.

(Came as a total surprise to see it recording on the dvr.)

So this is why they steered way clear of the Nephilim angel myth last year by saying there was only one and then killing that one off---because they planned to do a New Nephilim plotline as the main story this year! Halfway fallen angels having to learn the hard way that it ain't so easy being human. It's obviously better than a season of flashbacks to machete fighting in a forested setting.
