I rewatched MoS last night. It was my fifth time watching it, probably my last time for a long while. I'm not one who enjoys re-watching movies, 5 watches is exceptionally high for me, the only part that really made me smile was the Smallville fight, and I got a few feels at the flashbacks involving Ma and Pa Kent.
I noticed a few little things:
- Zod's arc of learning to control his powers is actually built up reasonably and slowly. I don't think it's interesting though.
- Pete Ross is not standing with the bullies when they're threatening little Clark. He is standing apart from them. He gives Clark a hand-up and it's actually a pretty slow scene, it's not a "blink and you miss it";
- People here had complained that Zod isn't re-programmed by the phantom zone even though that was his sentence. He is actually knocked out of the phantom zone early by the planet's destruction, which is why he is not re-programmed;
Concerning the Superman-Lois kissing.
Many people find it offensive on the basis that he should be out saving people when surrounded by all that destruction, rather than engaging in romance. I'd like to remind those people that the following is one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century:
In it, following the end of world war II, a sailor is kissing a young woman he doesn't know in euphoria. It's a celebrated photo even though the romance is not "earned" and even though both of them could be spending their valuable time tending to the injured and to the re-construction. The reason it's celebrated in the public consciousness is that it's a very human photo... they have just been through the tremendous trauma of world war II, and the war is now over and they might have a vibrant future to look forward to.
[NB: In reality, that woman gave an interview a few years ago, she didn't know the guy and didn't appreciate being grabbed, being in one of the most photographs of all time notwithstanding.]
