I think the biggest problem for profits here is the self-dealing... obviously if, say, Warner Bros. stuff goes right to HBO Max it won't be as profitable as if they sell it to Netflix.
It seems like what they want is a third partner. I do think Nexstar, one of the possible suitors, would be a disaster as they could get pretty political.
I also wonder about some bigger studios that might just want their own broadcast network to feed into streaming... like Amazon or Sony. Sony is in a weird spot because they don't have a big streaming destination which means a lot of Sony-produced stuff gets cancelled or passed over.
