My guess: they keep stressing how valuable and powerful souls are. I'm thinking that souls are kind of like uranium in that if you know what you're doing even a little bit of soul can give the owner incredible power. Methinks Lucifer was working on Sam's soul, trying to turn it into some kind of awesome weapon and when the wall in Sam's soul breaks down, some kind of big supernatural power is going to be released.

I'm kinda disappointed myself. I've been hoping for Death as a big bad, and God to be hiding out in purgatory with the monsters, and Death trying to reap God before the boys can gank Death.
Seems reasonable as he's the only possibly "bad" guy that's in the mythology more powerful than the archangels...and I was super excited when I saw Death was returning...doesn't seem to be going that way though after this episode.
