Re-watched Persona, the other day and there's something odd here;
Dax-Ur created Brainiac, in the late 19th/early 20th century and then fled to earth, seeking redemption, for having created Brainiac (having realized, that it was too powerful and could destroy worlds). Yet, all the evidence suggests, that Brainiac was harmless, until the 1980's, when General Zod corrupted it. There was nothing, for Dax-Ur, to redeem, 80 years earlier.
However, there is one possibility, as I see it; The Kryptonians shared, the Brain Interactive Construct technology, with at least, one other planet (Colu) in the early 20th century. That Brainiac went rogue, decleared war on the Coluans, which ended with Coluans being enslaved by their Brainiac (feeling guilt, because of this, Dax-Ur exiled himself to earth), for the entire 20th century.
Would make for an interesting, season 10 episode, perhaps; A probe, of this Brainiac (which has been overthrown, by the Coluans and left the planet), crashes on earth and takes on humanoid form. Encounters Clark and fights him. Eventually, that Brainiac's destroyed. But, not before, it's revealed itself, to simply be a probe of the real Brainiac (and then, they could end the episode, with a three-sphere symbol suddenly coming to life, on a screen and we're showed, the outside of a spaceship, somewhere in the universe. Showing us, the real Brainiac).
