Biracial Asian/White relationships in 1864 US south. Although, since she is a vampire this could explain it as she could compel men. Still, it isn't exactly going with the flow, if you know what I mean. There were the Chinese immigrants working on the railroad back then.

They could have just made Malese Jow's character white like with what they did with Kristen Kreuk.

Yea it really doesn't mesh considering the time, but like you said her power to compel probably explains it. And Malese Jow is f'n gorgeous. She is another good reason to watch. I just hope they don't kill her off soon.
