I hate to say it but Jo needed to die to push the boys more to what they need to do - to make them understand that nothing is sacred and that they will need to do whatever it takes to win this.....hopefully that doesn't mean giving into their 'angel leeches' that want them as vessels.....

I loved it. It had a season finale feel to it. I had a feeling going in that the Colt wouldn't work on Lucifer.
I did not expect the surge of Reapers or Lucifer trying to raise Death.
My favorite scene would have to be Lucifer trying to convert Castiel. Mark Pellegrino and Misha Collins brought their A-game.
If Sam and Dean did not shoot Lucifer with the Colt, Jo and Ellen would have died in vain. At least the Winchesters tried and they even know the limitations of the Colt.Comment

Not sure what to rate it as I am greatly disappointed the last females standing are now no more. I liked how they went out, but I really liked those characters.
Castiel was awesome in this one. That bit with Meg was great.
Lucifer was fantastic. That calmness and his demeanor are just so chilling. And then of course, the mass killings don't help the situation.
Wanted more Bobby. I like him, but I am thankful he's not one of the ones to have died.
I liked this one and I hate that it's the last episode for a long while.
I say 9/10, one mark off for the loss of Jo and Ellen, Kripke. I liked them.Comment

Supernatural at it's finest. It reminded me of Buffy and how epic and satisfying TV can be for fans. The scene with Dean/Jo and Jo/Ellen literally brought tears to my eyes!
And poor Sammy...Comment

I am hoping that Jo and Ellen will be raised by God. I hope that they will be Angels. Maybe now God will make an appearance. I cannot wait until Jan.Comment

I'm loving this whole storyline, its very exciting stuff.
A very powerfully written episode, had everything. Very sad that Jo and Ellen died but they did it for everyone on Earth, one character who is an exciting prospect every episode is Castiel, what a fantastic character and he will hold the key to defeating Lucifer.
This season has gotten better as its went on and i can't wait for the next episode.

10/10 for me. I really hated that Kripke killed off Jo and Ellen but I loved that I actually missed them going. The writing, as usual, was awesome. Luci showing his true colors now... no nice Luci anymore, he's all business. I loved the drinking party too - at least they can remember that time when they were together. I just don't get why they burned the picture.....
Also, anybody here read Good Omen by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman?! Anyway, Crowley the demon is in that book and he strangely plays a very similar role...Comment

Wow, I looking at the poll this one goes straight into the win column. 30 votes for '10' and 10 votes for '9' and nothing below that? Wow, people really liked this ep.
And so did I. This was Supernatural back to what makes it great and one helluva cliffhanger I have to say. (Kripke's pretty good at those!
OK, to start from the beginning--
Crowley. was. awesome! The whole 'homophobia' keeping the guy from bailing out his bank (and demons are bailing out banks now?!) thing was hilarious! Cas watching it all, even funnier.
Jo using her 'feminine wiles' to get in was great. And such cheesy lines from the demons!
Sam is still using Ruby's knife? Awkward...
Crowley having the Colt and that whole conversation with the boys was terrific! And the boys' reactions when he tells them to kill Lucifer was great.
Ellen teaching Cas how to drink...
And the boys together at Bobby's (I wasn't sure where they were at first but yeah, then we saw Bobby there), awww!
Dean wanting Sam to stay out of it made sense--you wouldn't want to expose Sam to the Devil if you didn't have to, but Sam's little speech was just perfect. The boys together til the end.
Dean hitting on Jo was a total WTF moment for me. I mean, I thought they'd moved past that (I remember hearing either Kripke or Jensen saying that Dean saw her as more like a little sister now). And her shooting him down (when she was obviously hung up on him before) was interesting. Considering that last time they met she was pining after him and he was shooting HER down. (paybacks?)
The pic of the gang forshadowing the coming death...
Anyone else spot that wording on the big American flag as we came into town? "Anti-God is Anti-America"? Nice touch!
Cas seeing the Reapers (and who else kinda wondered where Tessa was?), and then going off on his own (which, it was obvious that was going to backfire!). Being captured by Lucifer and then showing loyalty to Sam (that was different!) and saying he'd rather die. Loved all that.
OK, when Meg mentions that bit about her Dad being in town? Meg's Dad was Azazel. Not Lucifer. If Azazel wasn't being metaphorical when he mentioned Lucifer being his Dad in LR then Lucifer is Meg's grandfather. I realize it makes the line a little more awkward but it bugged me a bit.
Dean's panic at the Hell Hounds was very well done. He would fear them, wouldn't he?
How lucky that they ended up holed up in a Hardware store? And when we saw Jo's wounds I thought 'well, she's one of the 2 to die'.
Dean using the CB to call Bobby was a wonderful moment and their whole conversation was so well done. Kudos to Jensen on that one.
Bobby using the Bible for research. Clever.
Jo trying to sacrifice herself and Ellen joining her at the end (so that's Ellen, Ellen's husband and Jo, all dead now).
When Jo died on Ellen's shoulder before the hounds got her...wow, great moment! I got misty.
OK, the one sticking point I had was Sam and Dean's discussion before facing Lucifer. That whole "Last words? I'm good" thing rang a little false with me. I get that Dean wouldn't be a big "I love you, Sam" and would be all 'no chick flick moments' but still--that bothered me. And even if Dean wouldn't, Sam would.
Then Dean shooting Lucifer (I flashed back to the Matrix, which I had just watched recently, where Trinity shoots the Agent to save Neo), and then surprise! He's alive. That was a great twist and a great moment. I was all "aw, crap the Colt won't kill him! Now what?!"
When Lucifer was telling his story (which, yeah, eerily like Sam's) I had a WTH? moment. Since when is Michael Lucifer's older brother? Admittedly I don't know my Bible well but I thought Lucifer was the oldest angel? Huh.
Cas escaping and helping the boys escape (love Lucifer's smile when he sees they are gone. Of course he wants them to escape! He needs Sam's body!). And yeah, the final scene of Bobby burning the picture (which was really short for a final scene I had to wait through--well, fast forward through!--commercials for) was a bit of a let down after what we'd seen before.
But the whole 'wonder what happens now', vibe was Classic!Kripke and his love of cliffhangers. And now we have til Jan. 21st to wait!
So yeah, a great episode that furthered the story, threw us a few curve balls and even introduced a few new interesting characters even as it killed old ones off.Comment

Another great episode and I was not surprised that Lucifer was didn't die when Dean shot him with the colt! I thought that maybe Crowley had pulled a trick with the ammo, but then Lucifer informs Sam that he was one of "5 things in all creation that couldn't be killed by that gun" explained it. I also loved Castiel's message to Sam that the deal was "going down" and Dean "going down"? "okay Huggy Bear don't lose him...."Comment

Yeah, if Lucifer had died right then, where would the show go? But, how are they going to kill him now? He's an angel, right? I don't know, but maybe Michael is the only one who can kill Lucifer.
You know, I was never really that big of a Jo fan, but I absolutely loved her in this episode. I'm not saying I liked it when she died, but she and Ellen were so great and both Jensen and Jared did a FANTASTIC job!Comment

This is one of the best episodes in the series in my opinion. It hit all the right notes and was an awesome show!
Smallville's normally the only show that makes me feel misty during a scene, but this episode now shares the honors. There's not a lot that can get me teary. Congrats Supernatural. The death scenes of Ellen and Jo were perfectly shot and acted, although extremely sad
Regarding the Colt, I figured it wouldn't kill of Lucifer... way too easy. Plus the way he fell after being shot was totally anti-climactic.
But can I just say, I love Castiel... he is very brilliant and Misha was awesome in his scenes, as usual. The way he (literally) walked over Meg was pretty cool.
And as for Meg, I just have to say I liked her better with the first actress to play her (the blonde in season 1)... although kudos to the successive actresses who have to match the same characterization and persona of the original actress. A for effort.
Overall a FANTASTIC show, one of my favorites for sure. 10/10 easy.Comment
