Peter getting sylar's power

Correct me if i'm wrong, but in the moment that Peter realizes that Nathan is actually Sylar, couldn't he had just taken Sylar's power and therefore almost become the all powerful Peter that we used to know? yea it wouldn't work exactly as it used to, but would be better than just taking one at the time...

The fact of the matter is that Peter can only hold on to one ability. It's not a matter of wasting his chances of getting multiple powers whenever he touches Sylar. He simply can't do that anymore.
