Plus Clark never trusted Lex with his secret that he is an alien from another planet because of his instinctual sense of his desire for control and for a good reason too and that was the only secret Clark kept from Lex. But the betrayals, secrecy and dishonesty from Lex made Clark give up on him a little too easily when he could've done a lot more and all of that got in the way of their friendship. But ultimately the rift was caused by Lana because she married Lex to save Clark after when she discovered his powers and started having second thoughts about her marriage to Lex and is being black mailed by Lionel who is also protecting Clark from Lex by using Lana against Lex by controlling Lana by her love for Clark. So basically both Lana and Lionel team up to protect Clark by getting Lana involved with Lex by force.
