in the newest SPN mag, Kripke (in an article remembering Kim Manners) talks about how he deliberately (and sometimes unconsciously) tried to direct this episode in the "Kim Manners" style, seeing as how this was the first SPN Season finale NOT directed by Kim.

It should be noted that Kripke also said that they decided to dedicate not just Season 4 but the entire series' run of Supernatural to Kim, who helped mold so much of the show.
