  • Top 5-10 Angel Episodes?

    What are your most memorable?

    1. You're Welcome (Angel's speech at the end to Lindsey is just perfect)
    2. Through the Looking Glass / There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb (Lorne's family moments are priceless)
    3. Soulless (Probably the best time we see how truly evil Angelus is)
    4. Smile Time (probably the funniest episode)
    5. City Of (Intros)
    6. Life of the Party (second funniest next to Smile Time)
    7. Power Play / Not Fade Away (great way to end the too short lived series)
    8. Hero (At the time, the saddest moment on telelvision I had ever seen)
    9. A Whole in the World (until the scene at the end of this episode)
    10. Hellbound (showed how dark the series could get)

    Honorable mentions:
    The House Always Wins
    Billy
    Blood Money
I've Got You Under My Skin
    Sleep Tight
    Forgiving

In order of appearance, i've managed to get it down to 15:

      1. I Will Remember You - it was beautifully done, living up to everyone's expectations to the question 'what if they could', and beautifully heart breaking that Angel had to sacrifice it... and I also think it was essential to show the high point of their relationship on 'Angel' and not 'Buffy' so that we could understand his POV on Buffy for seasons to come. Without it, i think any references to the love of his life might have felt a bit foreign.

      2. Hero - well who expected it? we'd all fallen in love with Doyle in just half a season and to have him killed off so quickly just when things were starting to look possible for him and cordy was just too much. It broke my heart, and it broke so many others too. The way that episode was crafted makes it impossible not to cry every single time, especially the re playing of the video at the end (which I loved seeing twice more in the series )

      3. Five by Five/Sanctuary - Faith is a brilliant character, and the only reason I feel that way is because of 'who are you?' and these two Angel episodes. The Wesley torture and eventual breakdown into admittance that she was goading Angel into putting her out of her misery was brilliant to watch and I loved the little flashes of violent thoughts she was having... really made it clear just how psychotic she had pushed herself.

      4. Guise will be Guise - I just love this, it's Wesley's greatest comedy moment (as well as maybe 'spin the bottle').

      5. Epiphany - full of some of my favourite 'wisdom quotes' and I loved the ending with Angel coming in all puppy eyed and asking to work for them... Also found the reasons why he didn't loose his soul from sleeping to Darla made perfect sense and was quite poetically stated.

      6. That Old Gang of Mine - my favourite Gunn episode, in which we really see how much working for Angel has shown him a bigger picture. Besides, I've always loved the way that demons are innocent until proven evil in the buffyverse.

      7. Birthday - my favourite Cordy episode, in which it felt so natural for her too keep picking Angel, even knowing how selfish she had been before. Cordelia's character has changed so much since Buffy eppie 1, and yet not once does it feel too much or too fast.

      8. Forgiving - quite simply for the last scene (Angel trying to suffocate Wesley with a pillow), which was so intense that I felt quite shaken after it. And yet I completely understand him being that angry... no matter what the reason, if someone took your child, i'd imagine that's how fierce your reaction would be.

      9. Orpheus - Angel's biography as seen by Faith. Just a brilliant concept, and they have such a great respect for each other. I can't see any other character having been in his head and dealing with it the way she did.

      10. Shiny Happy People - the moment Fred became more than just the cute little texan girl to me. I really started liking her when she was left all on her own to deal with the weirdest apocolypse type thing ever.

      11. Peace Out - Because I adore the super weird concept of peace on earth being a bad thing (which is what I absolutely believe it is... it's just not natural for everyone to be that happy, it feels evil), and also because it felt like Connor's best moments talking to Cordy's body... I really felt for him. The actor did a great job with that monologue.

      12. Destiny - the greatest Spike and Angel moments ever, and it felt like everything that's ever happened between the characters before had built to that moment.

      13. Smile Time - ... does their need to be an explanation for this! The Spike/Puppet Angel fight alone puts it at the top!

      14. A hole in the world/Shells - because I have never cryed so much at television, so consistently no matter how many times I watch it, and so deeply because of her soul being destroyed... it was just the most horrific storyline they ever conjured, and it wouldn't have worked with anyone but Fred. Because she was such an amazing and yet ultra vulnerable character.

      15. Power Play, Not fade away - the perfect way to end, even if it was too soon.

Would also like to give special mention too: In the Dark, Rm w/a Vu, The Ring, Eternity, War Zone, Are you now or have you ever been?, The Shroud of Rahmon, The thin dead line, disharmony, dead end, Fredless, Waiting in the Wings, A new world, Spin the Bottle, Habeas Corpses, Soulless, Just rewards, Life of the Party, Lineage, Harm's Way, You're Welcome, Origin

        Great lists

And agreed with Hopeful on the last scene of "Forgiving". That scene was extremely surprising....Now I need to watch that episode again.

Apocalypse Nowish .... for the great fight scene at the end. Wes jumping thru the air with two guns all John Woo style, simply awesome.

the one with Wes and Angel dancing like fools at a party.

(watched this series several times over and retain no memory of episode titles)

The first Kate episode with her at the bar.
Dear Boy for its depth of Darla.
            The Holland Manners elevator ride.
            Cordelia's return.
Illyria's dialogue mashed up into one big clip show of her.
            Finding WolfRam&Hart on Pylea.
First going to war with lawyers and finding out they didn't want Angel gone, just dark.
When Darla & Dru were disturbed by a dark Angel who wasn't Angelus.
Whenever it was I started to like Lilah.

Hey Hopeful - hope you're well!
Just saw I Will Remember You last night and have got to say I was disappointed by it. I liked the ending with the sacrifice of the perfect day - and I can totally see how, as I progress through Buffy (still only at S4.8!), knowing what Angel did will have a huge bearing on my sympathies in episodes to come - but I just found the Buffy/Angel relationship extremely mawkish. I too was glad this story featured in an episode of Angel, but only because I found myself feeling relieved that it wasn't damaging BTVS. I'll be honest with you, Buffy's relationship with Angel, and the scenes they have shared where they discuss their doomed love, have never done it for me. Am I a bad person? Does anyone else feel this way about a relationship that has been built up to signify more than has ever actually been presented to us? In the bedroom scene, SMG sounded like she was in a soft porn film - everything just seemed hackneyed. I've always liked the premise of the Slayer/Vampire with a soul relationship, but SMG and DB have never sold it to me. I much prefer both actors and their characters when they are not acting out the Heathcliff/Cathy scenes.

Oh, and I really wish I hadn't read your list - in reference to Hero! Reading "spoilers" is my cross to bear when watching a show that's 10 years old!

Don't worry you are not alone... IWRY is the one episode I will not watch over again... ever... Buffy/Angel was always yawnish to me and I hate anything that comes under the title of Magical do over!
