When Sam is frantic and calling her, it made me think that maybe Ruby wasn't coming to see him for a reason. And that reason was that she wants Sam to crave her blood, wants him to be jonesing. That way she controls him. She's his source and so he relies on her. She has control.

I think she stayed away on purpose, myself.
