  • Fic: The Curse Of Prophecy

A little something from Morgana's POV.

    ***

The Prince who would be a legendary King. The wizard who would bring magic back to Camelot. The maid who would be Queen and the ward who would lose them all. Their destinies were tied together, threads of gold, braided so tightly that to pick one apart would be to throw destiny itself off course.

She had the gift of prophecy and she was damned. They lived in the here and now and she teetered on the edge of tomorrow. They saw what could be and chased their dreams with the innocence of youth. She saw what was and shrank back from the future that haunted her dreams.

Arthur. Proud, headstrong, noble Arthur. He took life and moulded it to fit his desires. He fought for the love of Camelot and laid his triumph at his peoples feet. Charming, teasing, chivalrous Arthur. He fell in love and never looked back.

She saw his broken, bloodied body on a blood soaked battlefield.

Merlin. Kind, eager, endearing Merlin. Camelot was his destiny as much as Arthur’s. It was in Camelot’s royal court that he would find his home. It was here that he would guide the man who would bring about Camelot’s golden age. Clever, sensitive, genuine Merlin. His magic would save the Kingdom again and again.

She saw his fall, trapped by the magic he had mastered.

Guinevere. Loyal, loving, caring Guinevere. She fought her destiny for as long as she could but it was etched in the stars just as her love for Arthur was etched in her heart. She would rule what she once served. Naïve, innocent, lost Guinevere. She had learned to live with Arthur. Could not live without him.

    She saw her grief.

And for herself. She didn’t dare look into the shadows of her mind. Once she had. Once she had searched the hallways of the castle and the streets of Camelot for a glimpse of her future and found that nothing of her remained. Camelot was the very air that she breathed so why did her footsteps not echo in it’s future?

She saw her path. It led away from Camelot. It led away from them.
