I am completely blown away. Julia Hoffman Asian. I always thought it would be cool for Angelique to be Africian Americian since she was a servant. This is a really cool develompment. I am beyond excited...plus she is older, but very sexy at the same time

    I can't Hardly stand it.

Even better, this Julia could have a crazy husband lurking somewhere - waiting to cause trouble in a future episode.

sweet! please allow it to be added to the wallpapers on DSW (with full credit and a link back to your site of course) but I think the fans that are getting used to the idea of a new Julia would appreciate it -- and you do great work

ORGOCH: Well, Good Lord! This new Julia Scoffman sure ain't no Jane Hathaway! Makes an old witch feel kind a out dated and behind the times. Guess this means the next and 4th version a Dang Shadows'll look like it's been cast with ev'ry color a the rainbow!

ORDDU: I could see Angelique as being African. I could also see Josette as being French. Remember Beth Chevez from the original 1897? I wonder why she wasn't portrayed by some gorgeous Latino girl?

I too thought she might have either an ex-husband, whoes last name she retained or one from whom she is seperated but not yet divorced. Of course she could always be a widow too: appropriate so close to Widow's Hill! Moreover, on a show like D.S. being a widow wouldn't necessarilly prevent her husband from showing up..... As others have noted she coould've had a father or step-father of a different race. One can't even rule out that she might have been adopted. I rather like that shes Asian. I only hope they drop a few more hints about her past than in the previous versions, though both were great. While it's too soon to know I suspect they'll use glasses, hairstyle and or wardrobe to make her seem both 'professional' and a bit cold at first as they used to do with librarians and even female doctors, years ago. Then, gradually I think they'll soften her look as she becomes more familiar to the other characters as well as the audience. She is , like Vicki, the other outsider in Collinsport. As to her age it's about right for the role of a medical specialist, probably with an established reputation in her feild. Like the others she may be older or younger than her character. Alec Newman, for example, might be made up a bit more guant or pale than he is to hint at his vampiric nature, subtley aging his looks.[ but it's hard to say. They could have him look normal most of the time and only transform him when he's ready to attack.I doubt they'll immitate Buffy or Angel despite some of the same special effects people. But these days some sort of transformation seems to be expected. The yellow eyes they used in 1991 were remeniscent of at least some of the vampire movies in the 1980's.I think the facial transformations came from FRIGHT NIGHT and to a lesser extent THE LOST BOYS.] Either way Kelly Hu doesn't look 6-7 years older than Alec Newman, so it shouldn't matter much on screen.

Go ahead. Permission granted. My website is http://zahir.150m.com (although I'm going to be doing a major redesign there within a month or so).

Thankee for the kinds words, everyone!

You know, Dr. Hoffman's father or grandfather might easily have been adopted as well.

The idea of a husband who is mysteriously absent, but may show up later, adds more intrigue to the show.

One thing's for sure, when they go back in time she most certainly won't be playing Josette's mother. lol

                            You mean Josette's Aunt Natalie.

Most likely when they go back in time 1790 Kelly Hu would play an Asian aristocat visit Collinsport sea-port and a guest to the Collinswood and she tells fortunes with tarot cards.

Kelly Hu's Dr Julia Hoffman: I think she would do just fine in own unique style.

Maybe they won't even show the type of flashbacks we are used to seeing and Kelly Hu won't have to play anyone in 1790.
